Kadayawan chess tournaments up
TWO chess tournaments will be held under the City Government-sponsored 2006 Kadayawan sports festival, National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) regional director James Infiesto said this Monday.
Infiesto said the 2006 Kadayawan Chess Open is set on August 5 and 6 while the Kadayawan Age-Group Chess Festival is set on August 12 and 13 at the Spazio, 3rd floor, Gaisano Mall of Davao.
"The Swiss System will be used in both tournaments. In the open event, however, the top 12 Dabawenyo non-titled players will advance to the round-robin phase with seeded and titled players to determine the composition of the Davao City chess team to the 2006 National Inter-Cities and Municipalities Chess Team Championship," he said.
The open champion will receive P5,000 while the runner-up will get P2,500. The third and fourth placers will each win P1,000 and P500 will go to the fifth placer.
The age-group competition, according to Infiesto, will feature the eight years old and below, 10-below, 12-below, 14-below and 16-below categories.
Medals and cash prizes will be given away to the age-group winners. (MLSA)
