Cha-cha, not impeachment, tops House agenda: Lawmaker

HOUSE Majority Leader Prospero Nograles said the opposition's series of impeachment complaints against President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo would not be on the agenda of the House of Representatives on its third regular session.

The House would work harder on the approval of several measures both of local and national, particularly those certified urgent by Malacañang.

Nograles also said the planned Charter change has remained to be an utmost priority of the House leadership especially now that Arroyo and Speaker Jose de Venecia have both renewed their commitment to push for constitutional reforms.

"We will try to finish (impeachment hearings) by end of August," Nograles, who heads the House Committee on Rules, said as he reiterated that the majority won't refer any of the complaints filed if the anti-Arroyo forces keep on filing.

As far as Nograles is concerned, it is now for the President's critics to move on and help the government in finding ways to further improve the lives of the Filipino people.

Nograles added that they will lobby in the Senate for passage of bills that the Lower Chamber has approved and those certified urgent by president like the anti-terror bill, the Marcos wealth, bio-ethanol, anti-smuggling, among others.

He expressed optimism that the new Senate leadership under Manuel Villar would be able to realize the importance of the several House-approved measures, which merely collected dust in the upper chamber.

Meanwhile, Nograles said that also among the main agenda of the House is to pass supplemental budget if the Senate "won't move" on the present budget.

"We will tackle the budget immediately. We have to identify sources of funds needed to the projects and programs identified by the President during her Sona," Nograles pointed out.
