Police office denies cover up in Pace's murder probe
THE Police Regional Office (PRO)-Southern Mindanao denied insinuations that the relief of two Digos City Police personnel was an attempt to do a cover up and protect some powerful people in the ongoing investigation on the murder of radio broadcaster Armando "Racman" Pace.
Regional police civil relations division chief Belflor Causing said the relief of SPO3 Alberto Baritua and SPO4 Manuel Galleos was made to avoid any doubt on the ongoing investigation on the Pace murder case and not to protect some individuals.
Causing said the two investigators were relieved after they received reports that Baritua and Galleos are perceived by the people of Digos as friends of arrested suspect Joy Anticamara.
Davao del Sur Representative Douglas Ra. Cagas earlier questioned the sudden relief of the two police investigators.
Cagas said the relief of the two police investigators on the Pace case is an indication that authorities are trying to hide something from the public or are "protecting someone powerful."
In a telephone interview, Cagas said he is not convinced by the reason given by authorities over the relief of Baritua and Galleos.
The two were transferred to the Regional Police Office in Catitipan, Buhangin.
The relief order from the PRO-Southern Mindanao was released July 31.
"The relief is intended to stop the investigation and to hide the financier's and the mastermind's identities," Cagas said.
Galleos and Baritua were allegedly the ones who found a witness against Anticamara.
Digos police chief Ceasar Cabuhat denied this, saying Anticamara was not their asset but of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.
Digos Mayor Arsenio Latasa earlier called for the relief of Cabuhat as well.
Causing however said they find no reason to relieve Cabuhat from his post.
Causing said their investigation is still ongoing and that Anticamara is not cooperating as he is continually denying any involvement in the death of Pace. (BOT)
