Host Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte and Ozamis City Mayor Reynaldo Paruhinog are guests during the opening rites.

The first game pits Pacman Gensan against National Basketball Conference champion Ozamis squad while Mindanao-Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) titlist ML Kwarta Padala of Cebu will test the mettle of North Cotabato Braves in the main event.

Filipino boxing sensation Manny Pacquaio was earlier reported to join his team in the curtain raiser of the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP)-sanctioned meet.

The Duterte Agilas and Montaña-Digos are also entered in the five-day cagefest. But they are expected to make their debut on Monday yet.

ML Kuwarta Padala, North Cotabato and Duterte Agilas are playing in bracket B while Pacman Gensan, Ozamis and Montaña-Digos are in bracket B.

The top two teams in each bracket after the single-round robin format will play in the knockout crossover semi-finals. The winners in the semifinals will then advance to the championship match.

A cash prize of P60,000 is at stake for the champion while the next three placers will get P40,000, P30,000 and P15,000, respectively. The Most Valuable Player and Best Coach will also pocket P2,500 each. (MLSA)
