No mass resignation in police, military
TOP ranking military and police officials in Southern Mindanao vehemently denied reports of an impending mass resignation in the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police (PNP) as claimed by the rightist group Nationalist Officers Union.
In Thursday's press conference at Task Force Davao headquarters, officials of the PNP, Philippine Navy, Philippine Air Force, and Philippine Army are one in saying that the rumored mass resignation is nothing but a hoax.
Lieutenant Colonel German Dida, spokesman of the newly created 10th Division of the Philippine Army, said they have never received any official communication about any of their men wanting to resign from the force.
Task Force Deputy chief Yusop Jimlani said they have no reports of anybody wanting to resign from their unit as well.
The same goes for the Army's 73rd Infantry Battalion under Lieutenant Colonel Rolly Bautista and the Air Force's Tactical Operations Group 11 under Lieutenant Colonel Restituto Padilla Jr.
Padilla said the rumor is but another psychological warfare of the enemies of the state.
"I don't believe that rumor is true. There is no massive resignation. But massive recruitment, there definitely is. And that is undertaken by the Philippine Military Academy and the Philippine National Police right now," Padilla said.
Davao City Police Office Director Catalino Cuy confirmed this, saying that the PNP is now recruiting 1,500 new personnel with 90 coming from Davao City.
Major Jonathan Gabor of the Philippine Military Academy added they are also set to conduct an entrance examination at the UM Matina this weekend for anyone who is interested in joining the country's prime military school.
In a statement released Monday, the NOU said the mass resignations would be to protest President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's refusal to answer allegations of election fraud and the killing of the second impeachment complaint against her by her allies at the House of Representatives. (BOT)
