Police group welcomes harassment raps by militants
By Ben O. Tesiorna

TASK Force Davao welcomes the filing of complaints by members of progressive groups in Davao City for alleged military harassment against militant leaders.

Lieutenant Colonel Yusop Jimlani, Task Force Davao deputy chief, challenged militant members to file charges against them in court so that "the truth would finally come out."

Jimlani denied accusations that they conducted "intensive surveillance" on progressive leaders or harassed them.

Militants claim Anakpawis vice president for Mindanao Antonio "Ka Tonying" Flores is said to be the subject of intense surveillance, death threats, and political harassments from the military intelligence agents.

"Last August 17, Ka Tonying's house in Sitio Magbo, Barangay Acacia, Buhangin District, Davao City was ransacked by armed men, which was apparently aimed to harass him and his family," Anakpawis spokesperson Editha Duterte said.

"Accounts from the family and other witnesses and the circumstantial evidence that were gathered have revealed the accountabilities of the military intelligence group of the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) to the incidents," she added.

Militant groups said the intensified surveillance and the rummaging of Flores's house are manifestations of the Arroyo regime's implementation of Oplan Bantay Laya in Southern Mindanao Region.

Recently, the group claimed a "death list" has been widely circulated in different battalions.

"This further strengthens our claim that the implementation of Oplan Bantay Laya has been fully instituted from the AFP hierarchy to their elements in the field with a 2 million peso-budget each battalion. Here in Southern Mindanao region, a list of priority targets has already been prepared," Duterte said.
