Tourists lose P100T cash, valuables at posh resort
A FAMILY spending their vacation at a world-renowned Pearl Farm Resort complained of losing their valuables inside their hotel room last Tuesday.
Brad Aleonar, 35, Filipino nurse working in the US, reported to the police that he and his family lost more or less P100,000 worth of cash and valuables inside the resort.
The victims discovered the heist at around 1 a.m. Tuesday when they entered their room.
He said there was no reported evidence of forcible entry in the hotel room, thus leading to the speculation that the robbery could have been an inside job.
Superintendent Jose Carumba, Island Garden City of Samal chief of police, said they are now investigating several employees of the resort for possible involvement in the robbery.
This is not the first time that such an incident happened in the resort.
A frequent visitor of the Pearl Farm Resort suggested that the management, Fuego Hotels, should beef up their security and improve their human resource management so that incident like this would not happen again.
The hotel management, meanwhile, assured they are conducting their own internal investigation to determine who are behind the robbery.
The resort staff recovered some of the stolen items few hours after it was reported.
Among the recovered items were the domestic and international plane tickets of the four victims and some of the jewelry. These were returned to the owners.
The management shouldered the fee for the re-issuance of all the domestic and international plane tickets amounting to P11,000 and have also waived the hotel charges of the Aleonar family amounting to P23,000.
Unconfirmed reports reaching Sun.Star revealed that the resort management is planning to replace the security agency for its failure to report the incident to the management as soon as possible.
The hotel's security personnel reported the incident to the management several hours after the victims complained.
A security personnel was said to have even advised one of the victims to just go to sleep and that they will report the incident to the police after sunrise. (BOT)
