Saudi Ahmad's 'Hinang Bago'

ONE of only two multi-awarded Muslim artist, Ib'n Salipyasin Ahamad a.k.a. Saudi Ahmad, is holding his third one-man show in Davao City's Genluna Gallery from August 22 until September 9 after a hiatus of five years. The show is entitled "Hinang Bago" muslim word for "New Works."

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

Saudi Ahmad, born on 1952, painstakingly creates colorful renditions of life in Muslim Mindanao. A temperament that is seasoned in Muslim traditional colors yet distinctly expressive, anthropological in approach and spirit, beautifully recreated in arabesque fashion, okir in his impressions of vintas and bancas and is first hand in experience.

A delightful surprise and an art full of postscripts to a wonderful history that when given attention may mobilize noble spirits to their plight.

Never has a Muslim, since the time of National artist Abdulmari Imao, born 1936, been given national and Asean awards, recognized, admired by fellow artists especially in Mindanao as Ahmad.

He has participated in several group shows and art competitions capping in 1996 the Juror's Choice Award in the Philip Morris Phil Arts Competition and Finalist in the 1996 Asean Arts Award. He was also Juror's Choice in the Phil Centennial Painting Competition last Dec 1997.

Genluna Gallery is located at 12 General Luna St, Davao City. The gallery is open Monday-Saturday 8:30 to 6:30 with no noon breaks.
