Sambajon reaches 2nd round at World 8-ball open

US-BASED Filipino Santos Sambajon made it to the second round of the International Pool Tour's World 8-Ball Open in Reno, Nevada.

Sambajon posted a 3-1 record in the first round to join 10 other Filipino bets, led by Hall of Famer Efren "Bata" Reyes, to the second round.

Sambajon won over Jirushi Takenaka of Japan (8-7), Geil Gay of the United States (8-4), and Brady Gollan of Canada (8-7).

His only lost came at the hands of Ben Davies, 6-8.

Earlier, Reyes, Francisco Bustamante, Alex Pagulayann, Marlon Manalo, Ronnie Alcano, Warren Kiamco, Antonio Lining, Rodolfo Luat, Jose Parica, and Dennis Orcollo have progressed to the second round.

Reyes, Bustamante, Alcano, Kiamco, Manalo and Orcollo posted 4-0 records to advance.

Reyes highlighted his huge first round with an 8-0 drubbing of Lee Heuwagen of the US, whom he defeated in only 24 minutes.

Reyes also beat Mike Lebron, Oezer Bulunmaz of Germany and Gerda Hoftstatter of Switzerland.

Bustamante scored victories over Michael Davis, Wade Crane, Roman Hybler and John Williams.

Reyes and Bustamante had earlier teamed up to win the World Cup of Pool in Britain where they beat the American pair of Earl Strickland and Rondey Morris.
