Security test won't affect trade exhibit 2006: biz leader

SOFRONIO Jucutan, immediate past president and member of the board of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc., said the security test done recently in the airports of Manila and Davao will not affect economic activities in the city.

He said the incident will not affect the holding of the Davao Trade Exhibit (Date) 2006 where the invited participants will come from Manila and the BIMP-Eaga, including representatives of embassies from the US, Sweden, Japan, India, Australia, Canada, Indonesia, and Taiwan.

For his part, Task Force Davao head Rodolfo del Rosario said in a telephone interview that the security test should be taken positively.

"Let us look at it in a positive way and besides no explosives has entered the city," he said.

Rosario stressed that security in the airports are in place although he admitted it could be a wake up call.

The business sector meanwhile brushed aside negative effect of the security test.

It was reported that an anti-terror expert claimed that he passed the security check at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and the Davao International
Airport while bringing with him bomb components, which included a small blasting cap, an adaptor inside of which was hidden some C4 plastic, and a cellular phone.

Jucutan said they are not bothered by the incident, adding they will still opt to stay and continue their business operation in this city.
