By Joy Romares-Sevilla

THE City Prosecutor's Office recommended the filing of murder charges against three men accused of stabbing another to death along the national highway in Barangay Marilog Proper, Marilog district, Davao City on September 1.

Prosecutor I Nanette G. Lemana recommended the filing of charges against Ronel Iroy, 23, Rolando Llego, 20, and Ryan Jofil Sumatra, 21, all residents of Barangay Marilog Proper, Marilog district.

Lemana did not recommend any bail. The respondents are now detained at the Marilog police station.

Bobby Bonghanoy, brother of victim Arnel Bonghanoy, 20, also a resident of Marilog Proper, this city, filed the complaint against the respondents.

Witness Victor Linto-an, friend of the victim and neighbor of the respondents, executed an affidavit claiming that he and Arnel were listening to music inside their public utility jeepney parked just a few meters away from their house along the national highway in Marilog Proper in the evening of September 1 when they were stoned by an unidentified person.

Linto-an said they did not recognize the man as it was dark and just let the incident pass.

They decided to sleep inside the jeepney that night and dozed off at around 11 p.m.

Linto-an said he was awakened by Arnel's shout for help at around midnight.

The witness said he awoke to see Iroy holding Arnel's head, Sumatra holding Arnel's legs, while Llego was stabbing the victim several times in the chest and stomach.

Seeing there is no chance he could stop the three, Linto-an said he fled and shouted for help from neighbors.

He was even chased by the three but was able to outrun them.

The respondents were later arrested in their house by the elements of the Marilog police precinct.
