Governor accuses board of delaying budget

DAVAO del Norte Governor Gelacio Gemetiza accused the Provincial Board of delaying the approval of the Supplemental Budgets 2 and 3, affecting the delivery of government services to the people.

But board members blamed the governor for the delay, claiming that two budget proposals he submitted have "questionable items," which need to be scrutinized carefully.

Among the questionable items in the supplemental budgets were the P4.206-million additional compensation allowance for all permanent and casual employees; the P5 million scholarship program; and the P3.48 million housing development program subsidy to the local government unit of Tagum City.

In his letter to Provincial Board dated August 22, Gementiza reminded the board of the importance of the supplemental budgets to be passed expeditiously.

"It has been a long time that the Office of the Provincial Board did not act to approve the proposed budget. As such, it results to delay in the delivery of much needed governmental services to our people," Gementiza said.

Vice Governor Anthony del Rosario said they could not approve the budget proposals expeditiously since they have to carefully scrutinize and make sure that the people's money will not be squandered and used to benefit some official's political motives. (BOT)
