10 Pinoys advance in Reno

A TOTAL of 10 Filipino cue artists led by Francisco "Django" Bustamante have advanced to the third round of the World 8-Ball Open in Reno, Nevada.

Warren Kiamco, Santos Sambajon and Marlon Manalo, runner-up in the 8-Ball North American Open, are not among them as both crashed out of the tournament following dismal showings in the second round.

Kiamco and Manalo each could only manage a win in five matches in the six-player second round to bow out of contention.

Bustamante reached the third round after posting a 5-0 record. He remains undefeated in the tournament and is a solid favorite to progress further.

Efren "Bata" Reyes had a so-so performance in the second round, but managed to post a 2-3 slate and made it through after nipping Fabio Petronio of Italy because of a higher percentage.

Joining Reyes and Bustamante in the next round are Ramil Gallego (4-1), Dennis Orcollo (4-1), Ronnie Alcano (3-2), Alex Pagulayan (3-2), Jose Parica (3-2), Antonio Lining (4-1) and Rodolfo Luat (2-3).

Pagulayan and Bustamante will play in the same group in Round 3, while Reyes is in Group 70 in the company of Daryl Peach, Johnny Archer, J. Shaw and Y. Beaufils.
