Reyes plays Morris World 8 Ball Finals
EFREN "Bata" Reyes of the Philippines finished second in the final group matches to barge into the finals of the rich World 8 Ball Open in Reno, Nevada.
Reyes, the best Filipino cue artist, lost to Oliver Ortmann in his final match of the day, 6-8, but still made it through after going 3-2 and edging Mika Immonen via the tiebreak.
Rodney Morris of the United States topped the group at 4-1 and will play Reyes in Sunday's finals (Monday in Manila) and the $500,000 winner's prize. The second placer takes home $150,000.
Reyes won over Immonen (8-3), Dennis Orcollo (8-6) and Corey Deuel (8-4). Morris beat Reyes (8-7), Orcollo (8-4), Deuel (8-3) and Ortmann (8-3).
"I'm excited tomorrow," Reyes said. "This is a lot of pressure for me and Rodney Morris. This is for five hundred thousand."
He added: I'm thinking to win tomorrow because a lot of people in our country are expecting us to win."
