Arroyo backs Mindanao ICT gab

SUPPORTING the thrust of the government to open up more cyber-corridors and promoting the establishment of business process outsourcing opportunities in Mindanao, the 5th Mindanao ICT Congress gets the support of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Malacañang Memorandum Circular 113, which was signed on September 8, authorized all information and communication technology (ICT) professionals in government offices to attend the 5th Mindanao Information & Communications Technology Congress slated in Cagayan de Oro City on September 20 to 22.

"This is a very good development for the organizers of the Congress," said Oro Chamber president and congress host Ruben A. Vegafria.

"The memorandum is our clear indication that we have the backing of our highest officer of the land and therefore it gives us encouragement to really work hard in ensuring that it will be a success," he said.

"We would like to thank Hon. Jojo Pupos, our presidential assistant for Northern Mindanao. He was instrumental in presenting the Congress to Arroyo," added Vegafria.

The Malacañang memorandum is seen to boost participation in the 5th MICT Congress, which will feature an Exhibition, Job Fair, and Special Events on September 20 and 21 at The Atrium of Limketkai Mall and the Congress Proper on September 21 to 22 at the Grand Caprice Restaurant and Convention Center.

ICT innovators and collaborators from business, government and non-government organizations, and the academe will be gathered in the biggest ICT event for 2006 in Mindanao as it highlights the role of the island in the country's positioning as Asia's e-services hub.

The 5th MICT Congress is organized by the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation Inc. (Oro Chamber) and the Mindanao Business Council (MinBC). It is co-hosted by the Cagayan de Oro City Government and Regional Information Technology & E-Commerce Committee of Region-Northern Mindanao.

The event is co-presented by Globe Innove and PLDT Business Solutions.

For inquiries and Congress registration, please contact the Oro Chamber office through telephone numbers (088) 856-3764 and (08822) 726-492.
