CDST tankers finish 2nd in GSC swimfest
THE Coastland Davao Swimming Team (CDST) finished second recently-concluded Pilipinas Youth Swimming Cup Sectional 1 held over the weekend at the Acharon Sports Complex in General Santos City.
Competing against a strong field of swimmers from powerhouse teams of Zamboanga, Iligan City, Cagayan de Oro, Tangub City, Cotabato, Panabo and host general Santos city, the CDST tankers harvested 19 golds, 16 silvers and 17 bronze medals.
Home team Dadiangas Torpedoes emerged over-all champion.
Twelve-year-old Bea Marie Nazareno, who bagged six golds and one silver, and Lorenzo Bajjio Malabanan, who captured seven golds and a silver, lead the Davao onslaught.
Fourteen-year-old Dominico Venuti also hauled five golds and two silvers for Davao.
Other CDST swimmers who were able to stand at the medal podium are Joshua Protacio (1 gold, 3 silvers and 1 bronze), Brian Panganiban, Boogie Angala, Patrick Pineda, Francis Isaguirre, Rachel Kehl, Sweet Angel Altamera, Ethel Pobre, Bianca Dizon, Adrienne DeLuna, and Aimee Nazareno.
Meanwhile, CDST swimmers Joboy Gonzalez, Celina Gonzalez and Alyanna Malabanan who are all undergoing training in TRACE Los Banos,Laguna also made good in their showing against highly fancied Luzon counterpart of the PYSC Sectional 1 version in Rizal Memorial Complex in Manila.
Thirteen-year-old Joboy Gonzalez and Celina Gonzalez finished with five golds and three golds and four silvers, respectively, while Malabanan bagged two golds, two silvers and two bronze medals.
Most of these local kids will again troop to Zamboanga City this coming October 7-8,2006 to participate in the PYSC Sectional 2 to qualify for the Mindanao Divisional finals in November 4 and 5.
The selected qualifiers after the Divisional meet in Koronadal will then vie against the divisional qualifiers from Luzon and Visayas at the National Age group final in February 2007 to be held at the TRACE Center in Los Banos Laguna.
