Health agency to conduct deworming in October
IN AN attempt to lessen the cases of children infected with intestinal worms, the Department of Health (DOH) will conduct a deworming campaign next month for children ages 2 to 7 years old.
Health Regional Director Paulyn Jean Ubial said the campaign will be Mindanao-wide lead by the health department together with barangay health workers.
The campaign will be conducted from October 16 to 20, under the Garantisadong Pambata program of the DOH.
It will focus on areas where there is high prevalence of cases of children with intestinal worms.
"Actually, its prevalence is almost everywhere because of poor sanitation," Ubial said during a press conference Saturday.
Ubial urge parents of children to encourage their kids to practice good hygiene.
According to her, 60-80 percent of children below seven years old is positive with any kind of worm.
Poor performance in school of preschoolers has also been attributed to these parasites. (BRQ)
