Court forfeits cash bond of theft suspect

THE Regional Trial Court (RTC) forfeited the cash bond of a theft suspect after he failed to appear in last week's arraignment.

RTC Branch 15 Judge Jesus V. Quitain also issued a warrant of arrest against one Ricardo Solinap, 42, resident of San Francisco de Asis in Matina, Davao City for his failure to appear in court on September 12 despite notice sent to him.

One Benjamin Otara, 30, of Sitio Escuela in Catalunan Grande, originally filed the charges against Solinap, who has posted a surety bond before the court.

In his affidavit complaint, Otara said he was on his way to work onboard a passenger jeepney at around 9:30 a.m. on August 11 when the incident happened.

Upon reaching Ecoland, particularly in front of the Department of Agrarian Reform office, an unidentified man seated beside him told the driver to stop.

The man, Otara said, hurriedly walked towards Sandawa road, prompting him to suspect something.

Checking on his things, he noticed that his Nokia 3230 cellular phone worth P13,500 that was placed inside his pocket was already missing.

Otara said he alighted from the vehicle and chased the man.

The man, later identified as Solinap, was arrested by a traffic enforcer who was in the area.

Otara's phone was recovered from the suspect.

Solinap was then brought to the Talomo police for investigation. (JGRS)
