Two in ambush of governor nabbed
By Ben O. Tesiorna

SULTAN Kudarat authorities arrested over the weekend two suspects in the attempted murder of Maguindanao Governor Andal Ampatuan.

The suspects were identified as Harris Daguindil and Malindo Sindatukan, both were said to be members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

The two were also said to be part of the group that tried to assassinate Ampatuan last June 23 in Shariff Aguak. Three people died as a result of the car bomb explosion just as the governor's convoy were passing by the public market.

The suspects were arrested inside a hospital in Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat after they were hospitalized as a result of an accidental explosion in their home in Barangay Tukanalogon, Datu Abdullah Sangki Friday.

Nine people were reported to have died in Friday's blast. Daguindil and Sindatukan, meanwhile, were hit by shrapnel. The two were said to be making a bomb when it accidentally exploded.

Relatives of the suspects reportedly took them to a hospital in Tacurong to prevent police from arresting them. Authorities however received information about the suspects' whereabouts that resulted to their arrest.

The suspects are now detained at the Maguindanao Provincial Jail.

Authorities had long tagged the MILF as those behind the ambush of Ampatuan. The MILF denied such accusation.
