Saturday, September 30, 2006 Shabu delivered to city not from N. Cotabato: Guv By Ben O. Tesiorna
THE shipment of 3.5 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) to Davao City by a town mayor using an ambulance did not come from North Cotabato, clarified North Cotabato Governor Emmanuel Piñol as reported in another local daily.
Piñol said he personally talked with Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to verify the news report.
"He told me the report, which came out was not accurate," Piñol said. "The mayor referred to was from Maguindanao and not North Cotabato."
Piñol stressed that the Provincial Government under his leadership has always stood firmly against illegal drugs, and that the mayors of the province are one with him in this campaign.
"It has been our policy, and it continues to be our policy, to fight drugs and to go after those involved in the illegal drug trade here in the province. We cannot allow any of our officials to be involved with illegal drugs in any way," he said.
"Neither will we allow the use of our ambulances, or any government vehicle for that matter, in any illegal activity especially drug trafficking," the governor added. (BOT with Press release)
