The three-day event will be held at Gaisano Mall of Davao Atrium and Garden Oases in Barrio Obrero, Davao City.

With the theme "Best Buy Bonanza sa Dabaw," the celebration will feature consumer advocacy and constituency-building, monitoring and enforcement, and consumer redress.

Anchoring all the activities on the "Best Buy" concept, DTI assistant secretary Merly M. Cruz said the consumers will become more educated such that they will become more vigilant and smarter.

"Best Buy concept means giving the consumers the best value for their money as well as providing them the widest choices. As you can see, we have prepared one forum on Consumer Welfare and another one on micro-financing so that consumers will be educated about their rights and other financial sources for the business, which they are into," she said.

The Consumer Welfare Forum will be on October 12 while the Micro-financing Forum will be on October 13. Both events will be conducted at Garden Oases.

The three-day affair will kick off with the opening of the Consumer Fair on October 11 at the Gaisano Mall.

In time with the opening will be the staging of an awarding ceremony for the Best of the Bests Consumer Welfare Desks among supermarkets and department stores, appliance centers/stores, repair and service shops, and public markets and DTI-Certified Establishments Seal; Health Food Program market promotion; Banana Jingle launching; and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Jobs Fair. All will be held on October 11 still at the Gaisano Mall.

The DTI-CE Seal will be given to establishments that uphold the rights of consumers and implement good business practices.

This program aims to promote and foster the highest level of business ethics and upholds a fair and honest marketplace through voluntary self-regulation and service excellence, Cruz explained.

DTI's top officials from Manila are expected to come over to grace the region's celebration. Among them are Secretary Peter B. Favila, Undersecretary for Regional Operations Carissa C. Evangelista, and Undersecretary for Consumer Welfare and Trade Regulation Zenaida C. Maglaya. (With Joy G. Romares)
