Agency to start demolition of 'hazardous' billboards

THE regional office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will soon start their campaign against billboards that are deemed dangerous to the safety of the public.

In a telephone interview, DPWH director for Southern Mindanao Dimas Soguilon said they will demolish billboards that are within the road right of way of national highways and those that do not have permit from the local government.

He said this campaign is in anticipation of the order of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to heck on all billboards all over the country that might pose danger to the public.

Soguilon said a dialogue between the billboard owners, the DPWH, and the City Government is now ongoing to determine, which billboards have violated the road right of way and city ordinances.

He said they will then give notices to the billboard owners for the demolition.

"If the billboard owners failed to remove their billboards, then we will be the ones who'll demolish it," said Soguilon. (BOT)
