Trade dep't issues warning against text scam By Joy Romares-Sevilla
THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Southern Mindanao alerted the public and encouraged them to be vigilant over text scam using their agency to defraud people.
The text scam, which started a few years ago, has continued to victimize innocent people, telling them that they have won a huge amount of money.
DTI Assistant Regional Director Marizon Loreto warned the public against being duped and advised that unless one has joined a promo or activity, then there is no reason for him to win.
Loreto also cleared that DTI does not issue promo permit to cellphone and said that the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) is responsible for that matter.
"Not all promo passes through the DTI. Like for example, promo for medicines, it's the DOH who is responsible," Loreto explained.
Loreto said the text messages sent by people behind this scam, are not factual.
She added that they already alerted the NTC regarding the issue and it is now making investigation on the matter.
