Donaire on Darchinyan: `I will knock him out'

THE 12-round championship fight between champion Vic Darchinyan of Australia and challenger Glenn Donaire of the Philippines for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and International Boxing Organization (IBO) flyweight crowns is not expected to last the distance.

Both Darchinyan, called "The Raging Bull," and Donaire, known as the "Filipino Bomber," vowed to knock each other out when they square off on October 7 (October 8 in Manila) at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Darchinyan, who holds an impressive record of 26-0 with 21 KOs, is the most vocal between the two fighters.

"I think Donaire is a good fighter. He is a good puncher. He will give me a good fight. The fact that he likes to fight on the inside works right into my plan," Darchinyan told Fightnews.com during the last of their open media workouts.

"I don't want him running from me. I will knock him out before the 12th round," added the power-hitting Darchinyan, who was born in Armenia.

Donaire, who hails from General Santos City, countered by saying he likes the challenge of fighting the best in the 112-pound class.

"I have been training for about six weeks. I have never been so prepared. I have no fear," Donaire said.

"I know this fight is going to be a war. I am going to drain him. If he gets careless, I will knock him out," added Donaire, who has a slate of 16-2-1 with 9 KOs.

Judging from their records, Darchinyan appears to be the big hitter between the two protagonists and is clearly the favorite on fight night.

But Donaire is unfazed of this tag, vowing to stun the boxing world the moment he steps into the ring with the champion.
