City execs mull creation of public safety office

CITY Hall department heads consider the creation of a public safety office after a recent trip of seven department heads to key cities in Luzon that include Makati, Marikina, Manila, Pasig, and Quezon City.

City Administrator Wendell Avisado said the group of Engineer Jocelyn Espina, Erwin Alparaque, Bing Alajar, Major Magno Adalin Jr., George Franco, and Lolita Garcia brought back valuable information that the City Government can definitely use to improve the system of delivering services to the public.

In Makati City, the group learned that the city's public safety department links together agencies such as 911 Rescue and disaster coordinating councils.

Davao City may follow suit so as to hasten the communication process between these independent agencies and save the city some funds because these agencies will now fall under one department.

Computer rental

Aside from this, the City Government of Makati does not purchase computer units but instead rent them from computer companies.

"Not only is there no maintenance cost because you can just have the units replaced or traded in for a newer model in case of malfunction. And the industrial waste is also lessened," Avisado said.

The group is just the first batch to go into educational trip. More will be sent to scour the country for success stories that will help in the efforts of the Davao City government to re-engineer the civil structure into one that will better serve the needs of the people. (GLP)
