Delay in dads' decision on spray ban irks Militar
By Mary Grace Plata

COUNCILOR Bonifacio Militar lambasted his colleagues at Davao City Council for failing to decide on the controversial aerial spray ban proposal.

In his privilege speech during Tuesday's regular session, Militar said his colleagues' indecision over the aerial spray ban proposal for the period of eight months is embarrassing.

"They should be ashamed of themselves," he said, adding that Mayor Rodrigo Duterte even took it upon himself to do studies on the issue that was supposed to be legislative work.

"Maybe he (Mayor Duterte) got fed up," Militar said.

He said the council decided on the 2005 Tax Code within a span of two months.

Militar added that the aerial spray ban proposal is a bigger issue affecting not only one sector but also Davao City as a whole.

"How come we can't decide over this matter?" he asked.

His colleagues, he said, do not understand the subtle implications of the mayor's move.

"Some were glad that the mayor was the one who did their job," he said. "It reflects negatively on their effectiveness as legislators."

The delay in the decision merely antagonizes the public, Militar said.

"It is a shame to this institution that it would take the mayor to do our job for us," he further said.

Councilor Victorio Advincula meanwhile said since the situation has already come to this, its better to patiently wait for Duterte's findings in order to finally resolve the matter in due time.
