Military gets intelligence tips on bombing plots

TWO days before the series of explosions that rocked Central Mindanao, military officials received intelligence information that some terrorist groups are planning to bomb some areas in Mindanao.

Eastern Mindanao Command chief Rodolfo Obaniana said they had immediately implemented security measures in their area of responsibility.

But amid precautionary measures imposed by authorities, suspected terrorists still managed to inflict damage.

In an interview over Radyo ng Bayan Wednesday morning, Obaniana said they received intelligence reports that a terrorist group is targeting the cities of
Kidapawan and General Santos including the town of Carmen, North Cotabato.

But the bombs intended for these cities did not reach their destination due to strict security measures in the areas.

The terrorists instead bombed Tacurong City and Makilala.

At around noon Wednesday, another bomb exploded in Central Mindanao, this time in Cotabato City. It was the fourth bomb in the region in two days. Three of them exploded, while a fourth was defused. Explosion in Cotabato City caused no injuries.

Obaniana said they had already identified the group behind these recent terrorist attacks. He though refused to divulge their identities.

He said intense pursuit operations against the suspects are still being conducted.

A total of six persons were killed while 33 others were wounded in bomb explosions inside a public comfort room in Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat public market and near the municipal hall of Makilala, North Cotabato Tuesday.

The explosions happened seven hours apart. (BOT with Peng Aliño)
