Tuesday, October 17, 2006 Agency: Child protection bodies in place, except in Armm
LOCAL councils for the protection of children (LCPCs) have already been established by the Department of Interior and Local Government in more than 36,000 barangays all over the Philippines, except the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (Armm).
Aside from that, 1,341 municipal councils, 1171 LCPC's at city levels, and 71 provincial councils have been organized in all regions except again, Armm.
Because of this, DILG Secretary Reynaldo V. Puno have instructed his directors to assist local chief executives of areas where the protection council are not yet in place to make the whole country "child-friendly".
Puno also urged LGU's to include funding for child-friendly activities in their annual budget plans to sustain long-term goals of the National Strategic Framework for Plan Development for Children.
It was not revealed why Armm still has not organized any such council. (GLP)
