11T jobs available in 2-day jobs fair By Grace L. Plata
A TOTAL of 11,500 jobs, 3,500 local and 8,000 overseas, are available to applicants in a job fair slated at SM City Davao on October 26 and 27.
A join project of Department of Labor and Employment (Dole)-Southern Mindanao and the Office of Representative Prospero Nograles, with SM City Davao, the two-day fair includes a career guidance counseling as an added feature to guide the applicants for wider career options.
According to the organizers, there were almost a thousand applicants hired on-the-spot in last year's fair and with 35 local companies and 13 recruitment agencies taking part this year, they aim to increase the number.
The organizers will also help facilitate for applicants who are interested to undergo skills training and vocational courses.
Nograles meanwhile debunked the supposed lack of job opportunities in Davao City stating that there are plenty of jobs for people who persevere to find one.
"There are those who complain that there are no job opportunities here but don't find time or are lazy to look. And there are others who just don't know where to go to look for jobs," he said.
There are 3,000 vacancies in Davao City coming from 35 companies that will participate in the fair, while there would be 8,000 overseas jobs available.
"The jobs fair is a proof that employment opportunities here is not lacking," he said.
According to Ophelia Domingo of Dole, the jobs fair will feature an employment or career guidance counseling, it is meant to guide those jobseekers who have difficulty in looking for jobs or being accepted in one.
She also said that the jobs fair would have access to Philjobnet, which is an online job-matching site.
The Nograles-Dole jobs fair, which has attracted other jobseekers from different parts in the region is part of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's thrust in providing jobs and employment to many Filipinos, an integral aspect of her economic development agenda. (With PIA)
