Sofia at Bo's Coffee on October 30

BOSSA Nova is the music that you hear in Metro Manila's hotel lounges, cafes and brasseries. Singers, or "vidas" as what they are popularly called nowadays, are shifting to this kind of sound maybe because there is a niche market for such.

Gone are the bandera and yes they are still around. Hale had a multiple platinum album and that's it. Parokya ni Edgar and the Dawn were featured during the Oktoberfest but was it really a big hit? If we talk about R & B, Southborders left for the States and if they had an awesome career here then that's a wrong move. Acoustics is also history well in fact Agot Isidro, who was then the acoustic diva, already turned Bossa and just released an album.

Could it not be surprising as coffee shops are sprouting from corner to corner. Music lounges are jam-pack as if we are again in the 70's where the likes of Kuh Ledesma, Basil Valdes, Vergie Varga and Martin Nievera entertained their guests with "smoothing" romantic songs.

No, we are not calling for the A & B market only, but for people who want variety. Listening to Bossa Nova (samba) music is not being square, it's simply cool and enriching. Access Unlimited & BO'S Coffee Club are proud to present our very own Pinoy Bossa Nova singer by the name of Sofia on Oct 30 at Bo's Coffee Club, Torres Street, Davao City.

Her album features great versions of The Look Of Love; Its Too Late and Just The Way You Are. Sofia stumbled on to becoming the featured artist of a bossa inspired album when she was asked to help out for the research materials, CDs and lyrics of the Brazilian songs.

It turns out that not only does her Astrud & Joao (Gilberto), Jobim and Putomayo albums been of much help to Ivory's ANR researchers but her passion for bossanova, its style and its soulful essence did more to convince the label to let her sing in the demo for Desafinado. As fate, as they say, would have it, Sofia's voice was tailor fit for the project. Singing bossa is indeed hard work and one must have it.

Access Unlimited has brought us another world-class performer and this event is made possible by Bodegas Hidalgo de Filipinas Corp, distributor of quality Spanish wines (Arviza, Hidalgo & La Gitana), Viva Mineral Water (Coca Cola Company), Pearl Farm Beach Resort, Air Philippines, Khua Thai Restaurant and Bo's Coffee Club and Killer Bee FM 89.1
