'Terrorist' caught, commits suicide

A MAN believed to be a member of the Rajah Sulayman Movement crept into the Philippine Air Force Headquarters in Datu Odin Sinsuat town of Maguindanao Province, apparently on a mission but ended up killing himself after he was arrested.

The Rajah Sulayman Movement is tagged as a terrorist group wreaking havoc in the national capital with very strong ties in southern provinces.

Dead after disemboweling himself was Riggy Estanislao, 36, of still unknown residence.

Initial reports gathered by Sun.Star showed Estanislao sneaked into Gate 2 of the Tactical Operations Group of the Philippine Air Force where PAF helicopters are parked at Awang in Datu Odin Sinsuat around 1 a.m.

Estanislao, who was reportedly armed with a grenade, tried to disarm the guard, but he was shot in the stomach, creating a wound that exposed his guts.

The soldiers brought the man to the Cotabato Regional Hospital but as he was brought in, he disemboweled himself and cut his gut. He died a minute later.

Colonel Julieto Ando, 6th Infantry Division Philippine Army spokesman, said they are still trying to get details of Estanislao's identity to know whether he was indeed a terrorist. (GF)
