Thursday, October 26, 2006 Pacman at the scales: 138.75
IF THIS was a battle as to who is faster in making the 130-pound weight limit, then count Round 1 for Filipino Manny Pacquiao, not the Mexican Erik Morales.
The punching machine from General Santos City on Tuesday weighed in at 138.75 pounds at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, California.
And Pacquiao must have boxing experts amazed as he tipped the scales with his shirt and shoes on during the 30-day pre-fight weigh-in supervised by a World Boxing Council official.
"He was on the scale wearing a shirt and his shoes - his real weight is about 136," Pacquiao's American trainer Freddie Roach was quoted by Fightnews.com as saying when the brief ceremony was over.
Pacquiao is slated to fight Morales for the third time on November 18 at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.
The super featherweight encounter is called "The Grand Finale."
Just days ago, Morales conducted his 30-day pre-fight weigh-in public and came in at 142 pounds.
Morales, who was reportedly having difficulty making the 130-pound weight limit, declared he is strong as ever and ready to mix it up.
There were reports, however, that Morales will still find it difficult to make the weight despite undergoing a high-tech training program.
