17 export trainings for SMEs held

A TOTAL of 17 export-oriented trainings and seminars for the month of October were already conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Davao del Sur for identified small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to further develop their competencies and readiness for the export market.

The trainings include good manufacturing practices, entrepreneurial capability-building, financial management, export pricing and costing.

In a report released by the regional office of the DTI, Queen's Delight, a manufacturer of condiments located in Astorga, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, was among the firm given focused assistance purposely to prepare the firms to enter into the export market.

A good marketing practices seminar was conducted in coordination with the Department of Science and Technology. The firm was also referred to the Small Business Corporation (SBC) for possible financing assistance in preparation for their expansion for the export market.

The DTI in Davao del Sur earlier assessed and evaluated 22 SMEs as potential exporters. These 22 SMEs were already registered under the Export Pathways Program of the DTI in the province.

Meanwhile, another four new SMEs namely Neth's Handicraft, Andrelee Coco Charcoal, 8G Fruits Ex Import, and the Lumain Banana Chips Processing have just recently enrolled under the same program. They were also identified as potential exporters. They were just in the start up stage of their development.

The Andrelee Coco Charcoal has been referred to the SBC for additional working capital, while the Lumain Banana Chips Factory was given referral to the Landbank of the Philippines (LBP) for their loan worth P1 million.

On the other hand, the Medium and Small-made Industries Coordinated Program is presently preparing the study and other requirements of the LBP for Lumain Banana Chips. (JGRS)
