2 bombs found near Army camp By Ben O. Tesiorna
TWO improvised bombs were found near a military camp in Barira, Maguindanao Tuesday morning.
A resident in the area noticed one of the bombs several meters away from the main gate of the Philippine Army's 603rd Infantry Brigade camp at sitio Bumbaran, Barangay Tugaig in Barira town around 5 a.m.
Soldiers seized and defused the improvised explosive, which was attached to a 60mm mortar. Another bomb was found after soldiers scoured the vicinity of the camp.
Military officials said the bombs could have been planted at nighttime.
They said the people who planted the bomb could have been targeting military vehicles entering and leaving the camp at night.
A turnover ceremony is scheduled at the camp with high-ranking officials expected to arrive, including Brigadier General Nehemias Pajarito, commander of the Army's 6th Infantry Division.
The 603rd IB's explosive and ordnance division said the bomb is similar to explosives used by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
In a telephone interview, MILF spokesman Eid Kabalu denied their group's involvement in the incident.
Kabalu said the planting of the bomb could be due to an "internal conflict" within the military organization.
