By Charles Raymond A. Maxey

THE Davao Chadric Builders came through with another decent finish as it bagged sixth place over a tough field of competitors at the close Tuesday of the 2006 National Inter-Province Chess Team Championship in Cagayan de Oro City.

Chadric, whose participation was bankrolled by engineer Enrico Vanta, ended up with six points in the nine-round Swiss system event to pocket P11,000.

The team is composed of National Master Alex Lupian, US Master Peter Tidoy, Jimmy Dano, Samuel Yu and Dharim Bacus.

Chadric also finished sixth place in the National Inter-Cities and Municipalities Chess Team Championship held in Davao last September.

Agusan del Sur A, led by GM Mark Paragua, emerged champion after notching eight points. Agusan bagged the champion's purse of P200,000.

Thanks to the heroic win of Christian Arroyo over Rodolfo Calonia Jr., Agusan Del Sur A beat Tagoloan, 2.5-1.5, in the ninth and final round Tuesday at the Atrium of Limketkai to pull through.

Paragua, Samson Lim and Ranier Labay made a silent draw against IM Barlo Nadera, Carlo Magno Rosaupan and Eden Diano, on board 1, 2 and 3 respectively.

Tagaytay City, which is backed by NCFP secretary-general and Tagaytay City mayor Abraham Tolentino Jr., edged Misamis Occidental of Gov. Leo Ocampos, 2.5-1.5, to finish second place with 7.0 points, good for P100,000.

Carrascal, Surigao del Sur and Rizal province landed at 3rd to 4th place after tallying identical 6.5 points apiece. Each of them receive P50,000.
