14 years and counting
By Stella A. Estremera

PAGKAKAISA, the second Philippine eagle born and bred in captivity turned 14 years old last October 26 and the Philippine Eagle Foundation Inc. (PEFI) celebrated this with an art exhibit and free environmental art workshop for children at the SM City last October 29-30.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

The two-day activity saw children of all ages, including a group who has Down's Syndrome wielding their brushes on paper and canvas and drawing what mother nature has bestowed on Davao -- butterflies, flowers, trees, mountains, and the Philippine Eagle.

Children were free to dabble with paints, whether they were invited to the activity or were just passing by with their parents who are out shopping.

Thus, in two days, the Dabawenyos, their children, and their visitors were once again made aware that their city hosts the country's national bird, an endangered specie that is crying for help as more and more forests are dissipated, leaving dry, eroded mountains that turn the rivers brown after a heavy downpour.
