Tuesday, November 14, 2006 Dimakiling regains form, beats foe in 8th round
INTERNATIONAL Master (IM) Oliver Dimakiling outclassed Fide Master (FM) Thom Wessendorf in Round 8 of the German International Open Chess Championship in Bad Weissee, Germany.
Dimakiling was set to collide with FM Stephan Bucal in the final round of the 18,000 euros tournament.
He totes six points along with compatriot IM Jayson Gonzales. The latter bested IM Maxim Chetverik while IM elect John Paul Gomez beat FM Michael Babar.
Gomez has 5.5 points.
IM Wesley So, 13, and IM Darwin Laylo have the best finish so far among the Filipinos entered in the meet. Both players hold 6.5 points.
So drew with Grand Master Stelios Halkias of Greece in the recent round while Laylo beat IM Mohamed Al Sayed of Egypt.
Solo leader GM Al-Modiahki of Qatar and GM Alexander Shabalov of the United States tote 7.0 points each. (MLSA)
