Saturday, November 18, 2006 Coffeeholics anonymous! By Janette Huang-Teves Mom about town
I WAS recently invited to be one of the judges of Blugre Coffee's first-ever photo contest dubbed as "One Hundred Blugre Coffeeholics," together with Mindanao Insider lifestyle columnist Dr. Lutgardo Sicam and Blugre owner Gatchi Gatchalian.
In commemoration of its 100th month, this contest aims to recognize its regular customers and serves as a fitting tribute for their continued patronage.
Aside from its loyal following of yuppies, Blugre has also become a favorite hangout of families because of its wide selection of sinfully delicious pastries (my daughter Anicka absolutely loves their choco cream torte!), appetizing pasta, delectable sandwiches as well as irresistible caffeine-free drinks and desserts.
Kids are kept busy and entertained through exciting coloring and Crossword activities.
It was quite a difficult challenge, for a shutterbug like me, to choose the best photo from among all the unmarked entries.
Coffeeholics Anonymous, I would call them. There were so many exceptional pictures. I could personally relate to the "coffee lifestyle" being depicted.
A mom and daughter having a memorable one-on-one date. A little girl falling asleep on the table while her parents enjoy a nightcap. A barkada having a reunion and picture-taking session.
Yuppies seriously glued to their laptops, whether on official business or Aids (as-if-doing-something but actually stalking other people's Friendster accounts).
In the end, we had to limit our choices to the top ten entries based on the following criteria: Theme Compliance-Blugre Coffee Lifestyle (50 percent); Composition (25 percent); and Creativity (25 percent). Photos should be candid and show the subject(s) drinking coffee, holding Blugre cups or mugs with logo, or enjoying Blugre coffee while taking advantage of the free wifi service.
We had to make sure that the Blugre logo was visible in the chosen picture.
After careful deliberation, the entry of ace photographer Rhonson Ng was judged as the grand prize winner. Ng received a trophy and P10,000 worth of Blugre gift certificates. Now, that's a lot of coffee!
Other winners were the following: 1st runner-up -- Rolando "Chiaw" Yap; 2nd runner-up -- Ruth Copsey; 3rd runner-up -- Doie Aurelio of New Jersy Studio; and 4th runners-up (tie) -- Katrina Mercado and Karlo Tomas.
In addition, honorable mention recognition was awarded to Rene Lumawag, Florence Te, Tommy Inigo and Ronald Cayomo.
Check out the "Blugre Coffeeholics Photo Exhibit" at Blugre Coffee Landco, then at Blugre Matina Town Square, and at Blugre Coffee SM City Davao, opening December 2006.
Cheers to the dynamic duo Gatchi and Larcy Gatchalian for 100 months of Blugre Coffee goodness!
