Wednesday, November 22, 2006 All set for Open blackbelt event
ITS all systems go for the 3rd Mayor Rodrigo Duterte Cup 12th National Open Blackbelt "Battle of Champions" Martial Arts Championship Tournament at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) Gym.
Participants from as far as Manila, Cebu, Bacolod and other Mindanao cities are arriving to challenge local teams like early favorite Philippine Moo Duk Kwan Soo Bahk Do Inc. Central Gym.
The PMDK-SBD Central Gym's Steve Grandeza is eyeing his 10th grand champion title this year. He, however, expects stiff competition against Manila bets.
The competition features a bantamweight division for 130 pounds and below players, featherweight 131-140 lbs, lightweight 141-155 lbs, middleweight 155-180 lbs and heavyweight 180 lbs.
The grand champion and division champions will each get a trophy and a medal while the runners-up will settle for medals.
Certificates of participation will also be distributed to all entries.
The annual meet is sponsored by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte. (MLSA)
