Engineer burned in Matina house

AN ENGINEER who was set to migrate abroad was burned alive in a fire that gutted down his home at past midnight Tuesday.

Fire Officer 3 Alvin Malinao of the intelligence and investigation division of the Davao City Fire Office identified the victim as Ludivico Marcelo Jr., an engineer and a resident of Kilowatt Street in Alpha Homes, Matina Aplaya, Davao City.

"The cause of fire is electrical short circuit that started in the vacant room of their house," Malinao said, adding that the fire damaged at least P1 million worth of property and valuables.

The fire was reported at 12:30 a.m.

According to Malinao, all the members of the family was able to get out of the house, but the victim went back inside to retrieve important documents for his immigration.

The victim failed to get out of the burning house.

The fire was controlled at around 1:25 a.m. after members of the 911 team, firemen from the Talomo and SIR fire stations as well as volunteers from Barangay 76-A and Matina Aplaya put out the blaze.

No one else was injured in the incident. (RCO)
