Basas, who had her first international competition in the 23rd Southeast Asian Games last December in Manila, will open her campaign on December 8 at the Al-Sadd Multi-Purpose Hall.
Basas will try to snatch a medal in the either women's 8-ball or 9-ball singles events.
She, however, stands a very slight chance to pull off a surprise in the Asiad compared to compatriot Rubilen Amit who captured two gold medals in the past SEA Games.
The presence of back-to-back world pool champion Ga Young Kim of Korea nor Zhou MengMeng of China in the field doesn't help a bit.
The RP contenders also expect stiff competition against other Asian pool sharks including those from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Japan and Taiwan.
Basas started playing billiards at age 14 at a local billiards hall here on the prodding of her friends.
From a hobby, Basas then tried to compete in local tournaments where she usually emerges champion.
The most memorable experience she had of the sport, according to her athlete's information sheet posted at the Doha Asian Games website, however, was topping the Davao Jaycees Nine Ball Tournament.
She considers Aristeo Puyat, RP's godfather of pool, and coach Edgard Asonto as the most influential persons in her billiards career. The Magician Efren "Bata" Reyes is her favorite player.
