Tuesday, December 05, 2006 DA identifies new areas for livestock production
THE regional office of the Department of Agriculture (DA) is not only developing new areas for high value commercial crops, but it also identifies and develops new areas for livestock production.
A total of 108.54 hectares is being developed by the agency as of October this year for livestock production, including new areas for cattle raising, goat raising, and for pasture.
Reports showed the expansion for cattle posted to have the highest area developed with a total of 73.50 hectares. A total of 20.04 hectares and 15 hectares are also developed for goat and pasture, respectively.
The agency also generated a total of 109 jobs for the livestock expansion regionwide.
The DA has only validated a total land area of 43 hectares for livestock expansion, offering 43 jobs.
But DA said there is indication many farmers are interested to engage in livestock industry. (JGRS)
