Parang mayor not likely to sue city mayor
By Ben O. Tesiorna

THE mayor of Parang town in Maguindanao is not keen on filing charges against Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte for imputing a crime against him.

Duterte has earlier identified Parang Mayor Talib Abo as a suspected drug lord.

In a telephone interview, Abo's legal counsel said they are still studying the possibility but hinted that filing charges against Duterte is a long shot considering that his revelation was a privileged communication done before the City Council.

Abo's counsel, Samuel Fontanilla, said he will have a meeting with his client before making any official statement.

Fontanilla said Abo just wanted to put an end to the issue and would just wait for the filing of charges against him if there will be any.

"Duterte's revelation was a privileged communication. It is a waste of time if we file libel and yet we know we have a weak case. What Mayor Abo wants is just to end the issue besides if there will be a case, then they will just have to file it in the proper forum," Fontanilla said.

The Municipal Council of Parang, Maguindanao had recently passed a resolution urging Abo to file charges against Duterte for maligning him (Abo) in public without any solid evidence.

Vice Mayor Adnan Biruar reportedly stated that Duterte's accusation on Abo has no sufficient basis and has placed the town mayor's name in a bad light.
