Abaca production in Davao decreases

THE volume of dried abaca and abaca raw fiber production in Davao Region has decreased based on the latest monitoring report conducted by the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) in Southern Mindanao.

Data showed that Davao Region has produced a total of 2,253.14 metric tons of abaca products as of June 2006 -- lower than that of the same period last year with 2,971 metric tons.

Davao del Sur, which posted the highest production of abaca products, also cut its production from 1,430.47 metric tons to 721.26 metric tons.

Meanwhile, a significant increase in abaca production was noted in Davao del Norte with 139.69 metric tons as of June this year compared to the second quarter of last year with a figure of 81.56 metric tons.

On the other hand, Compostela Valley Province produced a total of 21.41 metric tons this June compared to 45.78 metric tons last June 2005.

Davao City produced 5.15 metric tons, while 1365.63 metric tons was produced in Davao Oriental. (JGR)
