Thursday, December 07, 2006 Solariega strengthens waste management system
OVER 80 homeowners and their household staff attended the "Seminar on Household Waste Segregation" initiated by the Solariega Homeowners Association Inc. (SHOAI) and LandNet Property Management Inc., the subdivision's property manager.
"In Solariega, our care for the environment extends beyond maintaining our natural environs such as the trees and plants. We take responsibility over our household wastes because if left unmanaged, it can contribute to damaging our environment," said homeowner Casimiro Olvida, who is also the SHOAI auditor and head of the SHOAI maintenance committee.
Solariega has been working towards institutionalizing waste segregation among its growing number of households since 2005. A centralized garbage bin was fabricated in September last year, discouraging the open dumping of garbage.
Another garbage bin had also been set up this time with two compartments to accommodate the segregated refuse.
This was an undertaking in coordination with the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, in compliance with the solid waste management program of the City.
"Solariega has always been environment-friendly as evidenced in the way the subdivision was developed and maintained all these years, and this initiative is simply expanding its environmental concern. Of course, we are also happy to comply with the city's waste management program," said Carlo Evann Miguel, LandNet's property manager for Solariega.
The resource speaker came from no less than the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, represented by Eng. Leonard Palban, who emphasized to the homeowners the importance of practicing waste management at home.
He also encouraged them to reduce garbage by avoiding wasteful consumption of goods, and to recycle useful items instead of just throwing them away, to minimize the volume of waste materials.
The seminar was opened by Miguel and graced by Bago Aplaya Barangay Captain Danilo Andoy who gave an inspirational message.
Olvida formally closed the activity held at the Club Sola, Solariega's clubhouse, last November 12.
