N. Cotabato Peace Week highlights role of POs, LGUs

LOCAL grassroots formation took center stage in the first-ever provincial celebration of the Mindanao Week of Peace in North Cotabato.

Bannered by the theme "Intensifying Alliance for Genuine Peace and Development Communities in Cotabato", the celebration kicked off early this week with a peace caravan and peace forum attended by some 650 Muslims, indigenous people and Christians from different peace and development communities all over the province.

The participants are camping out at the Provincial Pavilion for the three-day affair that features sports competitions, cultural presentations and socialization activities.

The celebration also highlights the involvement of LGUs and the local peace development communities and advocates who hold a vital role in the identification, preparation, and implementation of peace development efforts in the war-ravaged areas in the province.

The week of peace celebration commemorates the 1996 RP-MNLF Peace Agreement. The Consortium Development of Southeastern Mindanao Cooperatives (CDSMC), a local service provider of the Act for Peace Program in North Cotabato, is spearheading the activity in cooperation with the provincial government.
