Controversial Parang mayor accused of slapping woman

CONTROVERSIAL Mayor Talib Abo Sr. of Parang, Maguindanao is charged with slapping a pregnant woman whom he accused of being an "illegal registrant."

Reports reaching Sun.Star SuperBalita showed that Abo reportedly slapped 20-year-old Wendelyn Ramirez inside the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office Wednesday morning.

Ramirez, who reported the incident to the Parang police, said she was in the municipal Comelec office for registration when the mayor allegedly asked her who is their barangay chair.

Ramirez said that when she was not able to reply immediately to Abo's question, the mayor suddenly slapped her face with a rolled paper.

She said she was shocked and could do nothing but cry.

Ramirez then reported the incident to the police and said she plans to file charges.

But Abo vehemently denied slapping Ramirez.

Abo said he merely confronted the woman as she is said to be an illegal registrant.

He said Ramirez is not from Parang, but from Cotabato City. Ramirez reportedly declared residing in barangay Talisay, Parang.

The Parang mayor said he just ordered Ramirez to go home, but never threw or slapped her with a rolled paper.

Abo said the incident was just blown out of proportion by his political enemies. (BOT with GF)
