THE regional office of the Department of Agriculture (DA) has also identified new areas for oil palm plantation as of October this year in at least two provinces in Davao Region.
DA has identified Montevista, Monkayo, and Laak in Compostela Valley and Kapalong, Talaingod, and Carmen, all in Davao del Norte, to be productive areas for oil palm.
A total of 295 hectares were developed and around 295 jobs were also generated.
Compostela Valley has most of the area developed out of the total area identified with 285 hectares -- 190 hectares was located in Laak, 80 hectares in Monkayo, and 15 hectares in Montevista.
Meanwhile, DA has only developed 10 hectares of oil palm plantation in Davao del Norte.
The agency has earlier reported accomplishments in the expansion of new areas for production of the high value commercial crops, abaca, rubber, and even coffee.
The expansion was through the mandate of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to maximize and develop new lands for agribusiness not only in Southern Mindanao, but also nationwide.
