A simple opening ceremony is set at 6 p.m. with Mayor Duterte, City Sports Coordinator Christopher "Bong" Go, darts coordinator and General Services Officer Marvin "ying" Melodias scheduled to lead officials in the rites.
The chess tournament will also open on Friday, 2 p.m., at the Gaisano Mall of Davao's Spazio.
Young and veteran players will vie for the prizes at stake in the two-day chessfest.
