RC of East Davao holds annual polls

THE Rotary Club of East Davao, said to be the biggest Rotary club in the Visayas and Mindanao area, has a new set officers for Rotary Year 2007-2008.

In the election two Tuesdays ago, the club picked two vice presidents, a treasurer and nine members of the board of directors. Earlier, the club unanimously elected lawyer Dominador "Lindy" Carrillo Jr. as president for RY 2008-2009 in a special assembly held to discuss future presidents.

Elected were Jose "Joey" R. Manulid II, a banker, and Ian "D'arcy" Walsh, an Australian educator, as vice presidents; and Steven "Steve" Monical, an American lawyer, as treasurer.

Topping the derby for directors was newsman Antonio "Tony" M. Ajero. The rest of the newly elected directors are Yoichi Amano, Japanese businessman; Winston C. Lim, Paul C. Yuste, Reynaldo "Rey" T. Fuentes, Efren D. Marquez, Jaime "Jim" S. Sabino, Valentino "Val" L. Dionisio, Prudencio "Jun" C. Tan Jr. and Antonio "Tony" Y. Teh (reserved) who are either entrepreneurs, business executives or professionals.

Respected senior members of the RC East Davao - Dr. Herminio " Hermie" A. Villano and Atty. Honesto "Totoy" A. Cabarroguis, both past district governors - gamely acted as tabulators in the canvassing of votes.

The balloting was supervised by an election committee composed of five past RCED presidents - Vito Oscar P. Paras, chair; and Dr. Eufracio "Tino" A. de Jesus, Ferdinand "Nandie" P. Subido, Roselio "Sel" T. Toledo and Amador "Ading" C. Macatangay as members.

The newly elected vice presidents, treasurer and directors will serve during RY 2007-2008 under the presidency of president-elect Efren F. Elbanbuena, assistant secretary general for Regions 11 and 12 of the Philippine Information Agency.

The incumbent president of the 41-year old RCED is Virgilio "Vir" S. Sojor, an executive of the Dolefil-Stanfilco food company.
